Nobody switches IT providers for fun. By the time a business starts looking, something has usually been wrong for a while: tickets sit for days, projects stall, or the person who knew everything is gone. And the number one reason businesses stay stuck with an IT provider they have outgrown is fear that switching will break something.
We have taken over environments in every condition, from meticulously documented to held together with sticky notes and one person's memory. The process below is designed to make the switch orderly and low-risk no matter which situation you are in. And we do not charge onboarding fees: the transition work is part of earning your business.
Talk It Through ConfidentiallyFive Situations We Take Over From, Routinely
You have outgrown your provider. The one-tech shop that was perfect at 15 employees cannot cover 75. Response times stretch, projects get postponed, and security tooling never quite arrives. We take what works, document what was never written down, and bring the depth of a full team with a 24/7 helpdesk.
Your provider is retiring. A huge share of small IT shops are one owner near the end of a career. When they wind down, their clients need a home. These are usually the smoothest transitions: we work with the retiring provider on a proper handover, and their knowledge transfers instead of walking out the door.
Your provider was acquired and service dropped. It is common: a good local shop gets bought, the founder leaves, the helpdesk moves somewhere far away, and suddenly nobody remembers your environment. If the service you bought is not the service you are getting, that is reason enough to move.
The exit is hostile. Sometimes the outgoing provider withholds passwords, stalls handover, or holds documentation hostage. Here is what matters: your Microsoft 365 tenant, your domains, your licenses, and your data belong to your business. We re-establish administrative control through the vendors directly when we must, document every step, and keep the process professional while you stay focused on running the company.
You are moving on from internal IT. An IT manager retires or resigns, or one overworked person cannot cover security, projects, and the helpdesk alone. We can take over completely as your managed IT department, or keep your internal person doing what they do best while we carry the rest through co-managed IT.
How the Transition Actually Works
What the switch looks like, start to finish:
- Confidential assessment. Before anything changes, we review your environment, your current contract's notice and exit terms, and what the switch needs to cover. You decide the timeline.
- Discovery and documentation. We inventory every system, account, license, and vendor relationship, and build the documentation your environment probably never had.
- Credential and access transfer. Administrative control moves to your business first, then to us as your provider. If the outgoing party cooperates, this is quick; if not, see above, it is handled.
- Parallel running. Our monitoring, security tooling, and helpdesk come online while your existing arrangement is still in place, so there is never a gap in coverage.
- Cutover and day one. Any switchover work is scheduled outside business hours. Your team gets one number to call, and a live person answers it 24/7 from day one.
The whole process typically runs two to four weeks, you are never without support during it, and there is no onboarding fee at the end of it.
What to Gather Before You Call Anyone
Worth locating now, wherever you are in the process:
- Your current IT contract: end date, notice period, and any early-exit terms
- Who holds admin credentials for Microsoft 365, your domain registrar, firewall, and backups
- A list of your line-of-business applications and who supports each
- Where your backups live and when a restore was last tested
Missing most of this list? That is normal, and it is diagnostic: if you cannot answer who controls your domain, your current provider holds more of your business than they should. Discovery is what step two exists for.

Switching IT Questions, Answered
Do you charge onboarding fees? No. We do not charge onboarding or setup fees when you switch to Cyber Command. The transition work, discovery, documentation, credential transfer, and cutover planning, is part of earning your business.
How long does switching IT providers take? Most transitions run two to four weeks from signed agreement to full cutover, depending on the size of your environment and how cooperative the outgoing provider is. You are supported the entire time; there is no gap where nobody answers the phone.
Will we have downtime during the switch? The transition is designed to avoid downtime: we run in parallel with your existing setup, take over monitoring and support first, and schedule any cutover work outside your business hours. Your team keeps working throughout.
What if our current provider won’t cooperate or hand over passwords? It happens, and it is manageable. Your Microsoft 365 tenant, domains, licenses, and data belong to your business, not your provider. We recover and re-establish administrative control through the vendors directly when needed, document everything as we go, and keep the process professional.
Do we need to tell our current provider before talking to you? No. Most businesses talk to us confidentially first, and we help you review your current contract for notice periods and exit terms before anything changes. You decide when and how the conversation with your current provider happens.
Ready to talk, confidentially? Call (407) 587-0089 or book a strategy session. A real person answers, the conversation is private, and the first one costs nothing.
